running

As you know, my treadmill is out of commission (and unable to be revived) so I've missed running this past week since it was too slick to run outdoors. This morning I finally got to meet up with my friend and go for a run! My Dad offered to keep Fischer so I could go earlier (when it's really too cold for him to be out in it) and I was actually excited to head out the door!

I always say that I don't love running, but honestly? I really do. When I first started running jogging I wondered if it would ever get easier and after months (and months and months!) of jogs that eventually turned into runs I know that it really doesn't ever get easier...I just get stronger.

We ran 6 miles this morning and I felt like I could have gone for quite a few more (my friend had errands to run so we were on a bit of a time crunch). Even though my legs could definitely feel the run, my body - my lungs - felt strong. It is such an empowering feeling; addicting even.

I never thought I'd say this with confidence but I know without a doubt now that I am a runner.

I am.

I love it and I am proud of it.

I AM A RUNNER.

  1. I'm so proud of you! You look fantastic but I can tell you feel even better, which is what's really important.

I have thought for MANY years that I would like to run. I even went as far as getting all the right equipment last year for my birthday. And, yet, it was never a good time. There was (is) always something stopping me.
I've had some health issues that aren't serious, yet, and I KNOW getting healthy would most likely eliminate the threat of something more serious.
But, I'm gonna be honest, it so freaking hard!! And, there are so many other things that "need" my attention. But, yet, don't I deserve some attention as well? I think so.

    Wow. How's that for a blog comment? ( :

    1. YES, you do deserve it! When I started I would just take my watch and say, "OKay, just jog to the next phone pole" (or for 30 seconds without stopping, etc.). I started SMALL and worked up to it. I remember the first time I "ran" for 5 minutes without taking a break - I felt like a million bucks and now I can run miles and miles without stopping but it didn't come all at once. I did Walk Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansone videos to start with (I was about 225 lbs. when I started working out for the first time before Jack was born) and then slowly my walking turned to walk/jogs and then into jogs and then eventually to runs and now "long runs" (usually a long run now is about 8-10 miles) that I do about once a week. Anyway, it's not about where you start, it's just about the fact that you are starting! :) You deserve it - you deserve to feel great (and I promise, no matter how much you hate it when you're in the middle of it, right when you're done and the sweat is dripping off you - you WILL feel great!). :)
